Privacy policy for Vozix
Last updated: 1 November 2026
In short
- Your photos, videos, tracks, keywords and descriptions stay on your phone. We have no server that receives them, and we cannot see them.
- Vozix has no user account, no ads and no analytics tools, and does not track you for advertising or statistics. We do not sell data.
- Some features send data off your phone: speech-to-text, place names, the maps, QR scanning, buying PRO and the map in films. Most of this goes to Google, and the map in films comes from OpenFreeMap. This is explained in section 4.
- If you buy Vozix PRO, Google Play gives us information about the purchase itself, but not your payment details.
1. Who is responsible
Vozix is developed and published by Focelix AS (org. no. 815 487 052), Korshagen 18b, 2020 Skedsmokorset, Norway.
Email: support@vozix.no
Website: https://vozix.no
If you have questions about privacy, or want to use your rights, email us.
2. What is stored on your phone
The following is stored only locally on your phone, in Vozix's own storage:
- Photos and videos you take with the Vozix camera, and photos and videos you import. When you import, Vozix makes its own copy. The original on your phone is not changed.
- Keywords, descriptions, favourites and folders you create.
- Where and when a photo was taken (location and time), if you have allowed location access or the photo already contains this information. You can also add or change the location yourself on the map.
- Place names looked up from the location (see section 4).
- Automatic keywords made from the time and place name. Vozix does not analyse the content of your photos and does not use artificial intelligence on them.
- Your settings.
- A digital fingerprint of each file (a mathematical code calculated from the file's content). It is used only to count how many photos you have organised in the free version, and says nothing about you or your phone.
Vozix does not store what you type in the search field, and never stores audio from speech‑to‑text.
Photos and videos you take with the Vozix camera are also saved in your phone's regular photo gallery, so you can find them in other apps.
VOZIX Spor: You can start recording a trip yourself. While the recording is running, Vozix records your phone's location, also when the app is in the background or the screen is off. A notification shows that the recording is running, and you can stop it in the app or from the notification. Vozix does not record your location in the background outside a recording you have started yourself, and does not ask for the background location permission. The route (locations with time and accuracy, and altitude and speed when the phone provides them), the start and end time, the name you give the track and which of your memories belong to it are stored only locally on your phone. Tracks can be shown together with your memories on the map and in My tracks. Track recording is not a cloud service, and your tracks are not sent to us.
Films: In Tracks you can make a film of a track. Vozix then builds an MP4 file on your phone from your photos, videos, the route, a map and the music you choose. The finished film is saved in your phone's regular gallery (the folder Movies/VOZIX) as an ordinary file that other apps with access to videos can see. You decide yourself if you share it, and it is not sent to us. Memories in Secure Folder are not included in films.
3. What we at Focelix AS receive
- Purchases of Vozix PRO: Google Play gives us information about the purchase, such as order number, product, subscription type, time, country and amount. We do not receive your card or payment details. We use this information to provide PRO, for accounting, and to reply if you contact us about your purchase.
- When you contact us: We receive your email address and what you write. We use it only to reply to you.
The legal basis is that the processing is necessary to perform our agreement with you (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)), and that we are legally required to keep accounting records (GDPR Article 6(1)(c)).
We use no analytics tools, advertising ID or other tracking for advertising or statistics in the app.
Crashes and errors: If you have chosen to share usage and diagnostics data with Google in your phone's settings, Google Play can give us an overview of crashes and freezes in Vozix, with phone model, Android version and where in the app the error happened. We do not learn who you are. We use this only to fix errors.
4. When data leaves your phone
Vozix sends nothing to us. Some features do, however, use services on your phone or from other companies, and data is then sent to them:
- Speech-to-text: When you tap the microphone button to speak keywords, a description, a search (also the search in My tracks) or the name of a track, your phone's speech recognition is used. Which service that is depends on your phone. On most Android phones it is Google. Depending on the phone and its settings, the audio may be processed on the phone itself or sent to that service to be turned into text. Vozix does not control this and cannot see which of the two happens. Vozix only receives the text and does not store the audio. The text is stored on your phone like other text you type, for example as the name of a track.
- Place names: To show place names (for example "Bergen"), the photo's location is sent to your phone's place-name service, which on most phones is Google.
- The map: The maps in Vozix are provided by Google Maps. This applies to the main map, the map where you choose a location for a photo, and the satellite maps in My tracks if you have turned them on. When a map is shown, it loads map data from Google for the area shown, so Google may learn which map areas you view. Google also receives technical information such as IP address, phone model, Android version, a map-specific ID, crash data from the map tool and how you use the map (for example zooming). If you show your own location on the map, it is used to show you on the map.
- Satellite maps in My tracks: My tracks shows your tracks on a sketch drawn on your phone. You can turn on satellite maps from Google yourself under Settings → General. They are off by default, and you can turn them off again in the same place. This setting only applies to the maps in My tracks, not to the main map or the map where you choose a location. The satellite maps only show the route, and photos and videos are not sent to Google by this feature.
- The map in films (an exception to the Google maps above): When you make a film with map scenes, Vozix loads the map style, map tiles, fonts and symbols over the internet from OpenFreeMap, a map service run by Hyperknot Software Kft. in Hungary. OpenFreeMap receives your IP address, technical information about the request and requests for the map tiles that cover the area of the route, so it can in practice see roughly where the route is. Your photos, videos, the route itself and your texts are not sent. OpenFreeMap processes this under its own privacy policy: https://openfreemap.org/privacy/. The map data is from OpenStreetMap contributors and OpenMapTiles.
- Music in films: The music for films is delivered by Google Play (Play Asset Delivery) when you install or update Vozix. Vozix does not download the music itself, and nothing about you is sent to us.
- QR scanning: The camera can read QR codes. The scanning itself happens on your phone, but Google's tool for this (ML Kit) sends technical information to Google, such as phone model, Android version, app version, an ID for the installation and how fast the scan was. The image and the content of the QR code are not sent. If you open a link from a QR code, it opens in your browser, and that website's own terms apply.
- Purchases: Vozix PRO is bought through Google Play, and Google processes the payment under its own terms.
Google processes this data under Google's Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
What you choose to send yourself:
- Sharing: If you share a photo, it goes where you choose in your phone's share menu.
- Backup: If you make a backup, the file is saved where you choose, for example on your phone, a USB stick or a cloud storage folder. It contains your photos and videos, the information you have added to them, your folders, your tracks and the order on your home screen. Vozix has no cloud storage of its own. If you choose a cloud service, that service's terms apply.
5. Permissions and what they are used for
You decide which permissions to give, and can change them at any time in your phone's settings. Without a permission, the rest of the app works as usual.
- Camera: take photos and videos, and scan QR codes.
- Microphone: sound on videos and speech‑to‑text.
- Location (approximate and precise): save where photos are taken, show you on the map, and record tracks with VOZIX Spor.
- Foreground service for location: let a track recording you have started yourself continue when the app is in the background or the screen is off. Vozix does not ask for the background location permission.
- Foreground service for films: let a film you have started yourself be finished when the app is in the background or the screen is off. A notification shows that the film is being made, and the phone is kept awake until it is done.
- Photos and videos on your phone, and location in photos: import photos and videos with location information, and find photos again when you restore from a backup. Vozix never changes the photos in your phone's gallery, except when you delete a photo or move it to Secure Folder yourself. Your phone may ask you to confirm this first.
- Notifications: reminders about backups and photos without keywords, and the notification shown while a track is being recorded.
- Internet: map, place names, the map in films and purchases.
- Run at startup: set the reminders again after your phone restarts.
- Vibration: a short vibration when you take a photo.
6. Security and Secure Folder
- Everything is kept in Vozix's own storage on your phone, which other apps cannot access.
- Secure Folder (PRO) is locked with your fingerprint, face or your phone's screen lock. Vozix never receives biometric data, only whether unlocking succeeded. The photos are kept in Vozix's private storage, hidden from other apps and from your phone's gallery. Use a screen lock on your phone for the best protection.
- When you move a photo or video to Secure Folder, it is hidden in Vozix, and Android asks you to confirm that the copy in your phone's regular gallery is deleted. If you confirm, the copy is deleted and the photo then exists only in Vozix and in your backups. If you decline, or the deletion fails, the photo is still in Secure Folder, but the copy stays in your gallery until you delete it yourself. When you move a photo out of Secure Folder, Vozix first makes a copy in your phone's gallery and checks it. Vozix blocks screenshots and screen recording where photos from Secure Folder are shown.
- Photos in Secure Folder and your tracks are encrypted in the backup with a password you choose (AES-256). The password is not stored anywhere, neither in the app nor with us, and no one can recover it. If you forget the password, the encrypted photos and tracks cannot be restored.
- So write the password down and keep it somewhere safe away from your phone, for example in a password manager or on paper at home.
- Vozix can remind you to make a backup every week, every month or every three months. You turn this on under Settings → Backup.
7. How long data is kept, and how to delete it
- On your phone: until you delete it. You can delete photos, videos, keywords and folders in the app.
- Tracks: until you delete them in My tracks. If you delete a track, the route is deleted, but not your photos and videos. Tracks already saved in a backup are not deleted by this; they stay there until you delete the backup.
- If you uninstall Vozix, everything in Vozix's own storage is deleted. Photos and videos you took with the Vozix camera remain in your phone's regular gallery and must be deleted there.
- Films: Films you have made are saved in your phone's gallery and are listed under Tracks, My films. You delete a film there, and it is then deleted permanently. If you uninstall Vozix, the films stay in the gallery until you delete them. When you delete a photo or video that is also in your phone's regular gallery, Android may keep it in its own trash for up to 30 days before it is deleted for good. That is set by Android, not by Vozix.
- Backups stay where you saved them until you delete them yourself. After you have approved it, Vozix can delete older backups that the app made itself, so that only the number you chose is kept.
- Purchase information: for as long as you have a subscription, and then for five years because of Norwegian accounting rules (the Bookkeeping Act).
- Emails to us: until the matter is closed, and no later than 12 months after our last contact.
8. Your rights
You have the right to access the information we hold about you, and to have it corrected or deleted. You can also ask us to restrict processing, object to it, and receive your information in a portable format. Email us at support@vozix.no. We reply as soon as we can, and within one month at the latest.
Most of your data we do not have, because it is only on your phone. You control that yourself in the app. From Google Play we only receive purchase information and the standard statistics Google gives all app developers, such as the number of downloads and crash reports. These do not tell us who you are.
If you believe we process personal data in breach of the rules, you can complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, Datatilsynet (www.datatilsynet.no), or to the data protection authority in the country where you live.
9. Children
Vozix has no accounts and does not collect information about its users. The app is not made specifically for children.
10. Changes
If we change this policy, we update the date at the top. For significant changes, we tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
